The electronic cigarette assimilated to tobacco
A more suitable regulation is urgently needed but not yet ready to be implemented in Switzerland, according to Helvetic Vape. The Swiss association of users of personal vaporizers deplores that its recommendations have not been taken into account by the authorities, and the measures that will soon be introduced unfortunately assimilate the electronic cigarette as a tobacco product.
According to the Swiss association, in contrast with the large media coverage around e-liquids, it seems very unlikely that the Confederation allows those containing nicotine. On November 11th, the government simply announced that the bill would be submitted to the parliament.
Advertising for vaporizers will remain prohibited, smokers will not be encouraged to swap out tar with e-liquid aromas. A recent report by health authorities showed that regular users of vaporizers are the overwhelming majority of smokers. In summary, the Federal Council and the Federal Public Health Office will transpose the TPD into Federal laws on the Swiss territory.
Furthermore, the national Addiction Strategy succeeds the National Tobacco Programme. The objective is shared by all, reducing tobacco consumption, the means used to achieve it are not in any case sufficient. Helvetic Vape particularly regrets that the Federal Council makes no distinction between the different modes of nicotine administration. They stigmatize the positions of this association and especially those of its leader, Alain Berset.
