Esthetic revolution
It has been a heavy task for Aspire and its engineers to conceptualize a clearomizer, successor for the brand’s best-seller Nautilus Mini, as this one has left its mark in the history of vaping.
Its packaging sets the tune. Unadorned, only useful, the Nautilus X is released in a crystal-clear box. Inside, one finds the clearomizer, its drip-tip, a Pyrex tank and a spare coil of 1.5 Ω. The basic equipmentT.
Hopefully, the revolution is there, visually. Its compact design is much more modern than its predecessor; the Nautilus X looks like a Cleito. Aspire choose the minimum size with 22 mm in diameter and 45 mm in height.
The Nautilus X has the disadvantage of its qualities because it only contains 2 ml, the maximum allowed by the TPD. But an optional kit allows increasing it to 4 ml. the brand also sells a Pyrex tank with a frosted glass for those who want to customize this beautiful object.
Technical review
The main features of the Nautilus X are:
- Material: Stainless steel
- Volume: 2 ml
- Screw thread: 510
- Resistance: 1.5 Ω
- Length (with drip-tip): 45 mm
- Diameter: 22 mm
- Weight: 90 g
- Drip-tip insulated with Delrin
- 1 spare Pyrex tank en Pyrex and one spare coil of 1.5 Ω
- Colors: Silver, Black ou Gold.
Thin drip-tip, dual airflow and U-Tech Kanthal coils at 1.5 Ω, Aspire sticks to the characteristics of the its Nautilus Mini. The “X” is well adapted to direct inhalation or tight vaping, it has been upgraded with the latest technical innovations. For its coil of 1.5 Ω, Aspire recommends a power range between 14 and 22 W. The Chinese brand also sells a coil of 1.8 Ω for those who prefer the lower range of 12 to 16 W.
The large openings on the coil allow using high VG juices. The airflow is original, located above the tank, the air propagates inside the heating chamber in a U circuit, the U-Tech. This smart system makes leaking impossible. A good point.
The essential is kept
The Nautilus X is very usable. Once the coils is screwed, you fill the tank by the top in an open space between the coil and the Pyrex tank, you screw the top cap and you’re done. Since the top cap is notched, the airflow ring is not, which may cause annoyances sometimes.
Of course, Nautilus X is not the right candidate for cloud chasing, it is not designed for that. In contrast, it makes vaping a delicious and pleasant instant, ideal for indirect inhalation lovers even if the openings, wider, allows it to be more aerial than its predecessor. It even allows direct inhalation when set at 22 W.
As quoted before, the large openings on the coil are suitable for high VG juices. The latence will however be longer so that the wick gets saturated. In intensive use, at 22W, the top cap et the bottom of the drip-tip tend to be hot. The insulation with Delrin of the upper part of the drip-tip is not sufficient.
In summary
The “+”:
- Simplicity of use and of maintenance
- Minimum size
- Excellent rendering of flavors
- Good manufacturing quality
- No leak
- Pyrex tank in the spare parts
The “-“:
- Capacity: 2 ml, a kit increases the capacity to 4 ml
- The coil is expensive
- Proprietary drip-tip
- Heats in chain puffing
Conclusions
Rating 4.4/5. With this X version, Nautilus did its revolution, and it did it well. Keeping the bases of the Mini’s success, the new design, top-filling and the original airflow modernise what already was a monument. Another innovation is the large openings for liquid supply at the U-Tech coil that allow using thicker juices. Even if its customer target is a peaceful vaper, its innovations make it an all-road clearomizer with an excellent rendering of flavors. Its format makes it a good candidate for nomad use. Total success.
