ETHRA is a new advocacy group in the tobacco harm reduction consumer space, launched last September. “Reduced risk products are providing a gateway out of smoking for millions of Europeans but they face many threats. Today sees the launch of ETHRA, a new group formed by consumers and other advocates, to promote sensible regulation of innovative solutions for those who wish to continue using nicotine in a far safer form.”
ETHRA will be focusing on the challenges faced in Europe, providing a platform for networking and co-ordinating actions related to tobacco harm reduction. “Tobacco harm reduction is facing challenging times in Europe, as the EU Tobacco Products Directive review is already underway, and the WHO’s Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) Conference of the Parties will be held in the Netherlands in just over a year’s time.”
Focused on regulatory issues in Europe
Meanwhile, the NNA has announced that it is joining numerous other European tobacco harm reduction groups in partnering with ETHRA. “We are pleased to be part of this new European initiative to advocate for tobacco harm reduction on behalf of nicotine consumers. We look forward to engaging with policy makers to promote the benefits of sensible regulation in delivering better outcomes for smokers and users of reduced risk products in the future,” said NNA chair.
