Lawmakers in the U.S. state of Nebraska are working with local activists to get recreational marijuana on the statewide ballot in the 2022 election.
The campaign is set to collect separate medical cannabis legalization signatures that will release language for such a proposal in January.
Marijuana Moment reported on December 7 the move by State Sens. Adam Morfeld and Anna Wishart. It is fairly simple to state that legalization in a state that’s dependent on agriculture, like Nebraska, will move towards liberalization and marketization of recreational marijuana.
This would pave the way for local producers to cultivate their own marijuana crops, and eventually synthesize vaping liquids that contain THC and CBD compounds, among other cannabinoids found in these sorts of e-liquids.
The American Civil Liberties Union chapter in Nebraska have also announced support for the proposal Morfeld and Wishart have presented.
“This is an issue where current state law is far behind most Nebraskans’ values. We’re ready to end the failed war on drugs,” the ACLU of Nebraska said in a Twitter statement.
Nebraskans for Medical Marijuana, the political committee that’s led by Morfeld and Wishart, has already released potential constitutional language for whether legalization is approved.
The proposed language:
Nebraska Medical Cannabis Constitutional Amendment
Object Statement
The object of this petition is to allow persons in the State of Nebraska to have the right to cannabis in all its forms for medical purposes.
Proposed Language of Constitutional Initiative
To add a new section 31 in Article I.
I-31 Persons in the State of Nebraska shall have the right to cannabis in all its forms for medical purposes.
