Review: iJust P40 – Eleaf

The iJust P40 by Eleaf is a small, lightweight kit with two ways of inhaling. With no settings to adjust, the kit adapts to meet your needs by automatically selecting the right power level. Despite its simplicity, it does give you options to vape in new ways.

A self-contained vape

The iJust P40 kit is a discreet and ultra light vaping device. Its screen has been simplified to show just the minimum functionality and uses almost no power. From a tight indirect vape to a cloudier one, it’s an affordable, easy-to-use kit that will suit any level of vaping experience.

Super simple

A USB-C port on the bottom of the iJust P40 allows fast charging of the built-in 1500 mAh battery. The battery life isn’t the best in its class, but the coils in the box are pretty economical. The size and weight are in keeping with the battery life. You can also vape while it’s charging.

On the upper part of the battery body, there’s a small slider on the edge of the box. Sliding it left to right changes the airflow to the coil inside the tank.

That lets you vary the vape from a fairly tight, indirect inhalation draw (into the mouth then the lungs, like a tobacco cigarette) to a more moderate, direct vape (directly into the lungs). The iJust P40 is not designed to make huge clouds, but to offer two inhalation styles so you can vary your experience. And the iJust P40 is pretty good at it. The only downside in our testing was that indirect inhalation was very noisy. The kit is small, light and discreet, although the noise level makes it less so.

Available in several colours, the iJust P40 is very light (only 65 g including the box and the tank). The assembly is good quality. We loved the rubberised finish, which felt really soft and comfortable. On the front, the fire button protrudes just enough to press it with ease, whether you are right or left handed. At the bottom of the display, a “+” and “-” toggle button lets you set the power level.

The screen on the iJust P40 shows the bare minimum of information. It only displays the current power setting. The highest value (40 W) appears at the top of the screen and the readings gradually go down in 5 W increments to the bottom of the display, where it shows the minimum level of 10 W. The brightness is low – too low for our taste. Using it outdoors, even when the sun wasn’t that bright, made it almost impossible to see which value we’d selected. This is not a total failure because the iJust P40 detects which coil is in the tank and adjusts itself to the right power level for the ideal vape.

By limiting the amount of information available on the screen, Eleaf has simplified the product as much possible, however experienced a vaper you might be.

From a tight vape to an airier one

The tank is held onto the upper section of the battery by 4 strong, effective magnets. During our tests, we didn’t notice any sideways play when we used the device as it’s intended.

To fill the 3 ml capacity tank, you just slide off the top. A small engraved drop shows where to press to access the filling hole. A small roller ball under the top cap lets you lock the tank firmly into place when you close it again. There’s no risk of the tank opening by itself. That’s a plus!

You can change the 510 mouthpiece for a standard model but the one the iJust P40 comes with feels great, and has an interior diameter that is better suited to a wider range of vaping styles.

Two coils are supplied in the box. The 0.4 ohm GTL is best suited for restricted direct inhalation and requires a power level of 20-30 W. The GTL 0.8 ohm is designed for indirect inhalation and only needs 12 to 18 W. Flavours are well-rendered and it works better with fruity flavours. The vapour is cold or just lukewarm depending on how you adjust the airflow ring.

The vapour is much denser at 30 W and in spite of its diminutive size, the iJust P40 can hold its own against bigger, more complex kits. An easy-to-use product to use as a back-up vape or to start vaping with ease!

Self-taught and curious by nature, I developed my journalistic skills in the field by joining the Vaping Post in 2017. As a former smoker who converted to vaping, I immediately felt the need to understand in detail all aspects of this smoking risk reduction method that has enabled me to successfully quit smoking where previous methods had failed.
review-ijust-p40-eleafThe Eleaf iJust P40 kit is a decent combo to start with. Its automatic power selection means you won’t need special vaping skills to use it with ease. The two different coils are great for a fairly cloudy vape without going over 30 W. We would have liked the screen to be brighter.
