Great build quality
On one edge near the top of the Luxe XR Max there’s a slider to set the air flow into the coil. This slider also adjusts the draw and the sensation you get with every puff. The coils it comes with mean that the basic version of the Luxe XR Max is designed for restricted direct inhalation – but more on that later.
The air flow setting is pretty accurate considering the slider only moves over a rather short distance.
A USB-C port on the base of the Luxe XR Max allows fast charging of the colossal 2800 mAh battery. You can also vape while it’s charging.
During charging, the display also shows the battery level and the time remaining before the battery is fully charged. This is a small detail, but it’s a nice feature for everyday use.
The Luxe XR Max is powered by Vaporesso’s proprietary electronics. Vaporesso uses the Axon chipset in all of its products and it’s a great one. It’s simple to use and gives you a few options for using the Luxe XR Max, which works up to 80W.
The colour screen is bright enough for outdoor use in the sun. Every time you press the fire button, part of the screen lights up. You can switch this feature off if you prefer.
You can adjust the power level, but there’s also an intelligent automatic adjustment function available, depending on the coil you use. They have replaced the “+” and “-” buttons with a touch panel on the bottom of the screen. This works perfectly and the lack of buttons adds a designer touch to the pod.
Vaping for all
As with most pods, the cartridge fits above the battery. It’s held in place by two magnets that do the job perfectly. They fit perfectly, and there is absolutely no play at all. The mouthpiece is shaped like a recorder mouthpiece, and is fairly flat. It’s wide enough to let a good amount of vapour through.
Two empty cartridges are supplied in the box. This is a bonus, as you can change liquids easily and try out different vaping sensations. Another benefit of the Luxe XR Max is that you can change the coils. There’s no need to throw away the whole tank when the coil wears out – you just replace it.
To fill the 5ml tank, just lift the silicone tab. The hole will take most e-liquid bottle tips without any difficulty. The coil is held in place by a series of seals that guarantee it won’t move or leak.
The Luxe XR comes with two coils. Vaporesso uses GTX coils in most of its vaping devices. The 0.4 ohm mesh GTX is for restricted direct inhalation from 26 to 32 W, and the 0.2 ohm GTX makes a lot more vapour, from 45 to 60 W.
However, if you want smaller clouds, you can use other coils in the tank for indirect inhalation (into your mouth, then into your lungs, like a tobacco cigarette) by using the GTX 0.8 and 1.2 ohm coils.
If you can’t be bothered with changing coils and just want an easy solution, the Luxe XR Max also works with Luxe X Pods which have their coil sealed inside the tank.
The flavours were really clear with all of the coils we tested. In our tests, e-liquids with fruity flavours performed the best.
The Luxe XR is particularly versatile and has a solution for every type of vaper. No specific adjustments are needed, thanks to the automatic power setting. It’s the pod of the moment!
