Review: Aegis Solo 3 (S100) – Geekvape

The Aegis Legend 3 Kit Mades Its Mark with Touch Unlocking. Powered by two batteries, the market was awaiting a more compact model. The Aegis Solo III answers that call, with a single 18650 battery format.

Touch Unlocking

Like its predecessor, the Aegis Solo 3 box features touch unlocking. This new technology is appreciated and becomes almost indispensable once tested. Operating with a 18650 battery, this kit is geared towards powerful direct-to-lung cloud vaping.

A Refined Single Battery Box

The top of the Aegis Solo 3 is fitted with a platform that can hold a 23mm clearomizer, extendable to 25mm with a barely noticeable overhang, making it compatible with a wide range of atomizers on the market. The 510 connector is spring-mounted.

Right next to it, a thick silicone part hides a USB-C connector for chipset updates or occasional charging. We always recommend using a dedicated external charger for recharging the battery.

The casing of the Aegis Solo 3 is impeccable, featuring faux leather embossed with the model’s name. The finishing is flawless, subtly blending shiny and satin aspects. Beneath the leather is a series of sensors enabling box unlocking when handled.

These sensors are touch-sensitive and unlock the box when it’s picked up. When released, it locks automatically. It works incredibly well, eliminating the need for repeated button presses to lock the box during transport.

Under the device, access to the battery cradle is through a screw cap. A half-circle tab makes handling easier. The threading is perfect and smooth, requiring just over two turns to fully screw or unscrew the cap. The Aegis Solo 3 accommodates a 18650 battery, with a vent hole under the tab in case of battery issues.

The Aegis Solo 3 can deliver up to 100W, which is quite high — possibly too much — for a single 18650 battery, whose autonomy will deplete quickly. We will return to this point later.

The box offers various modes like temperature control, a SMART mode that adjusts power based on the coil used, Watts mode, and a memory mode for saving preferences per atomizer. It’s very comprehensive, making it nearly impossible not to find a function you like.

The box is responsive and reliable, just like the touch unlocking.

Cloud Vaping

The Zeus Sub-Ohm 2021 is the flagship clearomizer from Geekvape that accompanies kits for direct-lung vaping. It features top airflow, meaning the air intake is located at the top of the clearomizer, and is designed for vigorous vaping between 50 and 80W.

To fill the clearomizer, unscrew the top of the Zeus Sub-Ohm 2021 by just over a quarter turn. This reveals two large fill ports compatible with any e-liquid bottle tip. Unless you excessively pour liquid, spillage is impossible. Its 5.5ml capacity aligns with the draw type and kit format.

Two opposing airflows are located at the top of the clearomizer, cooling the replaceable coil inside the tank. The more open the space, the airier the draw; the more restricted, the tighter and hotter the vapor becomes. Nevertheless, the clearomizer always stays within the direct draw category.

Two coils are provided in the kit. The Z 0.2 ohm coil is used from 70 to 80W, while the Z 0.4 ohm coil requires 50 to 60W. Both are made of Kanthal. While the flavor quality is undeniable, we prefer the 0.4 ohm coil as the 0.2 ohm coil demands a lot of power (above 70W). With a 18650 battery, the autonomy is too limited for all-day use without multiple battery changes.

The vapor production is substantial, matching the required power levels. It’s a very pleasant clearomizer for users seeking a turnkey, airy vape.

In Summary

Pros:

  • Excellent finishing quality
  • Touch unlocking
  • Vape quality
  • Comprehensive chipset

Cons:

  • 0.2 ohm coil is not suitable for a single battery

review-aegis-solo-3-s100-geekvape-kitsThe Aegis Solo 3 kit is an excellent choice for users who want a box that's easy to use daily and enjoy powerful vaping. The electronics are comprehensive and suitable for various vaping styles. The finishing quality is outstanding. The only downside is a power-hungry coil that's not ideal for a 18650 kit.
