A compact, simple box

The Z50 box is compact and feels great to hold. Decorative inserts on the sides of the box add a flash of colour to its overall look. On the front, a coloured screen displays the necessary information.

The square fire button is on the top and is almost flush with the box. It’s pretty quiet to use. Two other control buttons complete the display, and they fit just as well as the fire button.

There’s a platform on the top of the Z50 to hold the clearomizer. The 510 connector is spring-loaded. The maximum clearomizer diameter is 22 mm. This means you can use a few other small atomizers, but the box is really designed to work with the Zeus Nano.

There’s some information on the bottom of the box, including the capacity of the integrated 2000 mAh battery. It’s a decent capacity but a downside too. It’s good because – given the size of the box – it’s a decent average. But things get a bit more complicated when you use the 0.3 ohm coil. That uses a power level between 30 and 38 W. Using this coil all the time will make your battery life plummet. You won’t be able to go a full day without recharging, which is worth thinking about if you plan to use this set up all the time.

A USB-C port beneath the control buttons gives you the option for a quick mod recharge or chipset update. It charges quite quickly, and even if the battery’s completely flat you won’t have to wait long to vape. You can also vape while the box is charging. The menus on the Z50 are quite standard. It has a Power menu for setting the wattage, bypass mode, temperature control and curves. This might be overkill, but these options are there to help you develop your vaping style. There are no nasty surprises when you do use it – it’s simple and it works. The screen is easy to read and bright. You can clearly see all of the important information. Power mode is probably the best one to use with the Zeus Nano.

A small, cloudy clearomizer

The Zeus Nano is a small clearomizer with a diameter of 22 mm. It’s perfectly suited to the Z50 box it’s mounted on. It’s compatible with the brand’s B coils, which offer 5 different ohm values ranging from 1.2 ohm to 0.3 ohm. The Zeus Nano works with a wide range of power and vaping styles. The drip tip is a 510. You can replace it with a standard model, but the one it comes with isn’t particularly difficult.

Changing the coil is simple. You just unscrew the base of the Zeus Nano and insert the coil into the slot provided. The two openings you can see on the photo are the air channels that cool the coil.

Filling it is easy and only takes a few seconds. You open the upper part of the clearomizer (the top cap) by twisting it a quarter turn. It’s a nice tight fit, so there’s no risk of the clearomizer opening by itself. There are two curved slots where you insert the tip of the e-liquid bottle. They aren’t very wide but they’re in proportion with the size of the Zeus Nano. It’s easier if you use the narrowest bottle tips.

Two tanks come with the kit, including one that boosts capacity from 2 ml (for the smaller tank) to 3.5 ml. This is the set up we prefer to use, as it means we won’t overfill the Zeus Nano, especially with the 0.3 ohm coil.

Two large holes opposite one another channel the liquid down to the coil and feed it. They’re a good size so you can use liquids with a high VG content without worrying whether you’ve put enough in. The seals all work perfectly and guarantee complete tightness.

The air flow adjustment ring is located on the top of the Zeus Nano, making this a top air flow clearomizer. Whether you like this type of draw or not, this system clearly prevents the leaks and seepage we’ve seen on other clearomizers. This is a real plus point, and particularly helps beginners or anyone on the go.

The air inlets are quite large, which has two consequences. The first is that the Zeus Nano, despite its small size, can make a lot of vapour at very reasonable power levels. The clearomizer is a bit noisy when the air flows are fully, open but not enough to stop the kit appealing.

Two Kanthal mesh coils come with the kit – one 0.3 ohm coil and one 0.6 ohm. Their range of use varies from 15 to 25 W for the 0.6 ohm and 30 to 38 W for the 0.3 ohm. When it comes to vaping, we can’t find anything to complain about. It works – and it works pretty well. The flavours it delivers are clear and strong. We found the Zeus Nano worked better with fruity flavours because it delivers cold vapour. You can use the 0.6 ohm resistor for indirect inhalation, but this set up gives a dynamic, not overly restricted vape, which not everyone likes. The 0.3 ohm resistor is ideal for direct inhalation, and consistently delivers a good amount of vapour.

However you use it, the flavours are very good. Using the two coils in the box makes the kit better suited to restricted direct inhalation through to airier vaping. For a real MTL draw, you’ll need to get some more sensible coils.

Summary

  • Clearomizer doesn’t leak
  • Choice of coils
  • Really good flavours

What we don’t like

  • Battery life’s a bit short at the highest powers
  • Clearomizer is noisy when fully open

Self-taught and curious by nature, I developed my journalistic skills in the field by joining the Vaping Post in 2017. As a former smoker who converted to vaping, I immediately felt the need to understand in detail all aspects of this smoking risk reduction method that has enabled me to successfully quit smoking where previous methods had failed.
review-kit-z50-geekvapeThe Z50 kit from GeekVape is a very good kit for users looking for simplicity. It’s compact, well designed and works brilliantly. The Zeus Nano is a great choice based on its flavour rendering and its top air inlets which prevent any leaks. The only disappointment is the 2000 mAh battery which just isn’t powerful enough above 30 W.
