Chinese maker Hellvape is expanding its reach with the 3rd version of its Dead Rabbit atomizer. This 24mm dripper is just as easy to use and as effective as always. It isn’t going to revolutionize the world of RDAs but it deserves a recognition for its good value for money.
A formula that still works
The Dead Rabbit 3 isn’t going to revolutionize the world of drippers. But beneath that ordinary exterior lie lots of little things that make it as easy to use as ever for vapers who are new to the world of rebuildables. It is enjoyable to use, works well and affordable…what a find!

A simple build that works
The Dead Rabbit 3 comes with an 810 drip tip – on the model we tried it was made of resin with gold glitter in it. This style may or may not be for you, but we have to give them credit for this unconventional component. It feels great to vape with. The drip tip is a decent length – not too long, not too short. Machining around the top cap makes it easier to hold when you’re working with it.
Under the dripper, the 510 pin is long enough that you could use it on a mech hybrid mod. A second drilled pin comes in the box for bottom feeders. The machining is precise and flawless. We’re used to high-quality products from Hellvape, and this model is no exception.
The body of the atomizer is engraved with the rabbit logo for which the brand is famous. The engraving isn’t deep but it’s there, and contrasts enough to stand out. Again, we can’t find any major flaws.
The Dead Rabbit 3 consists of several components. The top cap is the key to setting the airflow. The air intakes are set opposite each other on the body of the dripper barrel. There are two different settings for cooling the coils: 2×15 small holes, or 2×3 large oval slits. It’s this versatility for DL vaping that makes this model so appealing. The resulting vape is an open to very open draw. It can handle power-hungry, exotic assemblies without the atomizer getting hot.
Easy to assemble, easy to vape with
Taking apart the Dead Rabbit 3 is easy. Its posts are designed to be slightly angled. This is new – the previous rectangular pole shape has morphed into a more rounded design. This leaves a bit more space for the air to circulate inside the dome – without disturbing the airflow. The photo shows a hole in the base of each pole. When you use a bottom feeder, the liquid runs through these holes to feed the wick from below.
There’s plenty of space for fitting the coils – even big, exotic assemblies will fit in easily. You can cut coil tabs by sliding the wire cutter under the posts. In reality, this is quite fiddly and it’d be better to do it before you fit the coils. The tank is just less than 5mm tall. It’s big enough to squonk or drip without worrying whether your liquid will leak out of the air inlets.
The Dead Rabbit 3 comes with two coils and some wick, so you can vape straight away with your atomizer. Fitting the coils is easy, even for beginners who want to get into rebuildables. You can choose whether to mount the coils higher or lower, and more or less centrally on the mounting plate. However you do it, it’s easy. When it comes to vaping, the Dead Rabbit 3 doesn’t disappoint – quite the opposite. It delivers an energetic, powerful vape. Just remember, drippers are designed for direct inhalation at high power.
Forget about vaping at 30-40W – or you won’t get the best from your dripper. The Dead Rabbit 3 can easily handle power levels of over 85W. It produces dense, flavourful vapour. By playing with the airflow settings you can make hotter or much cooler vapour with the large openings. This dripper doesn’t hiss and works well whatever e-liquid you choose. It isn’t the dripper of the year, but it is still a decent, easy dripper.
